3. On the other hand are compelling arguments for holding business executives to certain responsibilities in addition to profit maximization and to compliance with the letter of law.

1.為公司賺錢的確是corporate executives的responsibility之一，因為一個要發展下去是離不開錢的(給員工發工資需要錢，為公司作宣傳打廣告要錢，開發新產品新技術要錢，國家經濟的發展也需要各個企業能夠有盈利。比如WAL-MART的盈利帶來了就業，也給國家帶來了稅收，這個稅收可以是更多人獲益。

2. 但是，有時會放棄眼前的利益，將大筆資金投入長期項目，for the long run。這是為了一個公司能夠長久的發展下去。比如，很多大公司都會投入大量的人力和財力進行新產品的研發

3. 同時，賺錢不是唯一responsibility， 對企業自身來說，give employees motives, 給員工提供良好的工作環境，為員工塑造融洽的人際關係氛圍，給予員工發展和成長的機會。
【這裡引用赫茨伯格的雙因素激勵理論】對與社會來說，一個公司屬於社會的一部分，所以除了賺錢，corporate executives 還有責任回報社會，做一些慈善事業【charity undertaking】取之於民，用之於民。這樣不僅可以樹立公司良好的社會形象，還可以幫助需要幫助的人。而且也體現社會對弱勢群體的關注。
企業使用了一部分社會資源，如：污染、有限的能源、人力資本，有責任為社會承擔責任。如：説明治理污染、開發先進的節能設備。
