一提到“窮”，好多人首先想到的必定是poor。其實呢，就像老外形容“老人”時不用old、用senior一樣，poor這個詞他們也是不太常用的。那應該怎麼用英語形容“窮”呢？一起來看。

➠Poor給人一種消極感，所以可以試試更為中性的struggling（艱難的）或disadvantaged（弱勢群體的）：
★ There are a lot of struggling families who need our help.
有很多艱難度日的家庭需要我們的説明。
★ He lived his whole life as a struggling artist and didn't become famous until after his death.
作為藝術家，他一生貧困潦倒，直到死後才成名。
★ This scholarship supports disadvantaged youth who can't afford to pay for their education.
該獎學金用以資助那些負擔不起學費的貧困年輕人。
★ A new educational program has been set up for economically disadvantaged children. 
他們設立了一個新的面向貧困兒童的教育計畫。
　　
➠表示“沒錢”還有很多口語化表達，比如美劇中常見的broke（破產了）等：
★ I can't afford to go on holiday this year - I'm flat broke. 
今年我沒法去度假了——我徹底沒錢了。
★ Nobody loves you when you're down and out. 
你窮困潦倒的時候沒人喜歡你。
★ They're not badly off but they don't have much money to spare. 
他們並不窮——只是閒錢不多而已。
★ We're a bit hard up at the moment so we're not thinking about holidays.
我們最近手頭有點緊，所以不考慮度假了。
