如果傾向於學生自己安排閱讀的內容,可以說說這樣可以激發學生的閱讀興趣,學生能夠吸收得更好,對於學生未來得發展也更好;
如果選擇老師來安排閱讀的任務,可以說的理由如:為課程內容服務,老師可以把控閱讀的內容,避免學生看一些poorly written, intellectually undemanding的素材,同時有些素材可能對於學生的心智發展不利的。

It is believed that 「reading leads to better life」 but what kinds of materials are more suitable for students to read has been a debatable issue. While I admit that teachers are more qualified to choose and recommend books for their class than persons not prepared in the field, I also insist that students should be free to read whatever books they like.
In selecting books for reading by students, teachers usually consider the contribution which each work may make to the education of the reader, its aesthetic value, its honesty, its readability for a particular group of students, and its appeal to adolescents. Therefore, the books assigned to students for reading are beneficial to improve their reading comprehension. For example, a teacher might select a book 「the adventure of huckleberry finn」written by Mark Twain, as a compulsory reading material for most secondary school students, partly because it is humorous and will keep the attention of most students, and partly because it has proved popular with many students of widely differing abilities. After students read those books, they can discuss, analyze and share their understanding in a group, guided by teachers, which is an effective way to enhance students reading comprehension skills and this is much easier for teachers to organize the class.

On the other hand, however, reading is not confined to the materials recommended by teachers; instead, students should be encouraged to explore books that they like. A fondness for books triggers their initiatives in reading and it cultivates students' autonomic reading capability. Such ability is vital for their future study as well as career life since mature readers are those who can select appropriate materials for themselves rather than those who overly rely on what their teachers assign. Therefore, parents and teachers can motivate students to read more self-chosen books and help them foster a regular reading habit, which contributes to expand their personal resources.
