【字源】< pan-：all 全部 > + demon（n. 惡魔）+ < -ium：表“地點＂的字尾 >：全部都是惡魔的地方 → 大混亂。
此字由大詩人彌爾頓（John Milton）所造，指的是《失樂園》（Paradise Lost）之中，撒旦召開群魔大會的地點，即「群魔宮」後來才衍生出「大混亂」之意。
