我們可以用“add insult to injury”
（傷害之餘又侮辱）來表達。

有關該習語的產生，一種說法認為它出自古羅馬作家費德魯斯（Phaedrus，公元前15？—公元50）的寓言集中。

費德魯斯引用了這樣一篇伊索寓言——有個禿漢一巴掌向叮在他頭上的蒼蠅打去，可沒打到蒼蠅，卻打在了自己的頭上。於是蒼蠅嘲笑道：

"You wanted to kill me for a mere touch. What will you do to yourself , now that you have added insult to injury?"
