首先我們需要注意到這裡有個形容詞子句that were developed at the lower latitude，撇開子句先來看主句內容：因此，和陽曆比起來，日曆被農曆循環影響的更多。日曆後出現了形容詞子句，所以這句話的完整解釋為：低緯度地區發明的日曆受到陰曆的影響比陽曆多。

In more northern climes, however, where seasonal agriculture was practiced, the solar year became more crucial . (C8T1)

In order to track temporal hours during the day, investors created sundials, which indicate time by the length or direction of the sun's shadow. (C8T1)這句話想對簡單一些，當句子很長時，經常會把(to )一類的放在句首，並用逗號隔開。在文章中看到sundial這樣的單詞，如果不認識不要著急，看看它後面有沒有什麼修飾詞來解釋它，這句話在後面加上了形容詞子句。the length or direction of the sun's shadow是個很長的名詞片語，A of B在中文中翻譯成B 的A，所以這個片語的意思是：太陽影子的長度或方向。
